DGT: Change of address (vehicle and/or driving licence)
DGT: Change of address (vehicle and/or driving licence) is filed with DGT - sede electrónica / app miDGT / Jefatura de Tráfico. With Managora you do it 100% online: you answer a few questions, sign a digital mandato (power of representation) and we draft, sign and file your application for you. Estimated total cost: €19 to €19.
We notify the DGT (Spanish traffic authority) of your change of address on the vehicle's Permiso de Circulación (vehicle registration document) and/or on your driving licence (art. 32 RGV). The legal deadline is 15 days from the change: after that, a minor penalty of 80 € per vehicle applies (40 € if paid voluntarily). KEY RISK: DGT notifications sent to your old address are treated as validly served, and the 20-day appeal deadlines run from that date. The procedure itself is free of charge.

Legal basis and things to bear in mind
- Legal framework: art. 32 RD 2822/1998 RGV + art. 75.3 RDLeg 6/2015 LSV + RD 818/2009 art. 25.
- Legal deadline: 15 calendar days from the change. Penalty under art. 75.3 LSV: minor infringement of 80 € per vehicle (40 € if paid voluntarily within 20 days).
- KEY RISK: DGT notifications sent to your old address are treated as VALIDLY served (art. 90 RDLeg 6/2015). The appeal deadlines (20 calendar days) run from that date even if the holder never receives them.
- The change of address is separate from a change of vehicle ownership (use cambio_titularidad_vehiculo if you are selling the car).
- Vehicles under leasing/renting: the registered holder is the finance company, not the user. It is the finance company that must report the change.
- Companies: the change is signed by the legal representative holding a valid notarial power of attorney.
- No DGT tasa (official fee): this procedure is free of charge.
- Multiple vehicles: a single declaration covers all the vehicles of the same holder.
- The driving licence is not physically replaced because of a change of address; the change is recorded in the DGT database and the confirmation can be downloaded from the miDGT app.
- After the change of address at the DGT, it is also worth updating: your empadronamiento (at the Ayuntamiento, town hall), your tax address with the AEAT (Spanish Tax Agency, using modelo_037 with the change-of-address option), your bank, your mutual insurer and your insurance company.
