Legal basis and things to bear in mind

  • Fingerprinting is done in person and only by you: you will have to attend the appointment yourself to have them taken (art. 209.3 RD 1155/2024).
  • You have 1 month from your entry into Spain (or from the date your authorisation takes effect, based on your registration with the Seguridad Social if it is a work authorisation) to apply for the card (art. 209.1 RD 1155/2024).
  • If the first available appointment falls after that month you do NOT lose your authorisation: late filing is not among the grounds for withdrawal in art. 200.2 RD 1155/2024, and until the card is issued your status is proved by your visa or by the decision granting the permit (arts. 206 and 208). The delay is a serious infraction under art. 53.1.h) LO 4/2000, fineable from 501 to 10,000 euros and never leading to expulsion (art. 57.1 excludes that paragraph): this is why we keep a dated record of every appointment attempt.
  • The empadronamiento is NOT compulsory documentation for a first TIE: neither art. 209 RD 1155/2024 nor the National Police procedure sheet requires it. It is only asked for when the applicant gives an address other than the one on file, and then it must be less than three months old.
  • Checklist for the appointment in Madrid, per the official fingerprinting sheet: EX-17 original and copy, valid passport original and full copy, 32x26 mm photograph, proof of payment of the 790-012 tasa and, for initial authorisations granted in Spain, a copy of the decision granting it plus a printout of the "resuelto favorable" status screen.
  • We request the fingerprinting appointment for you on the official portal (ICPplus), in your name and with no need for a digital certificate or Cláve. What cannot be guaranteed is the slot: each police station releases them and once they run out the system simply answers that no appointments are available. We try daily and keep a dated record of every attempt.
  • Once your fingerprints have been taken, the card is ready for collection in around 30 to 45 days.
