Legal basis and things to bear in mind

  • The decision deadline is 3 months. If you get no reply within that period, the application is deemed refused (silencio negativo): that is why it is best to file before your current permit expires.
  • If it is granted, we then arrange your new card (TIE), which reflects the new authorisation.
  • For work as an employee, the application tasa is paid by your employer, who is also the one who registers you and pays your Seguridad Social contributions. You only pay the tasa for your TIE (around 16 euros).
  • Your Spanish criminal record certificate and the certificates showing you are up to date with the tax authorities and the Seguridad Social are obtained by us, with your consent: you do not have to provide them.
